Unleashing feminine leadership in the workplace with Gina Marotta

Hi Gina! We’re excited to learn more about Feminine Genius and your work as a career coach. Before we jump in, can you describe your area of expertise for us?

My work is to ignite authentic and empowered leadership in the workplace. As a career transformation coach and advocate for feminine leadership, I specialize in guiding individuals to discover and harness their innate genius and feminine strengths such as intuition, collaboration, nurturance, and fluidity. Through personalized one-on-one coaching, dynamic live events, and immersive professional development trainings within organizations, I help individuals and companies unlock their full potential. At its heart, my work is about creating a ripple effect of positive change in both your inner world and outer sphere of influence. 

How long have you been in the industry?

My journey in women’s career empowerment began by witnessing my mother’s transformation from a 1970s housewife to a career woman in the 1980s. In my own career, I began women’s empowerment work in 2006, at the age of 30, when I was hired as the Managing Director of Step Up Women’s Network in Chicago. The mission of this organization is to empower both professional women and teen girls around creating meaningful careers. In 2012, I left this role to start my current business in career transformation coaching and training programs.

What inspired you to start your business? 

In 2006, I made a career transition from being a criminal defense lawyer to a position as a managing director of a women’s nonprofit. The new career path was fueled by my passion for women’s empowerment work and in this new role many people admired me for making this purpose-driven career leap. Over the years I was asked so often about how I made this career change that I decided I’d create a business to help others find their best talent and passion and then align their career in that direction. 

When I started my business in 2012, I personally began a deep dive of study with a spiritual teacher into ancient feminine mysticism and wisdom teachings. Through years of immersive study and practice, I’ve transformed my own approach to work and have also empowered clients—predominantly women, with a sprinkle of men—to tap into their authentic selves and express their feminine essence in the workplace. 

What do you enjoy most about the industry that you work in? 

I love helping people find their way back to their inner genius and true nature – it is a process I’ve gone through and continue to go through in my own life and career and so know how liberating and joyful it is to be fully authentically aligned.

Who is your ideal clientele? 

My ideal clientele includes individual women or companies who see the gifts that women bring and who want to bring balance into our world of both masculine and feminine leadership.

Are you working on any really cool projects right now? Have you had any big wins you want to tell us about? 

Yes! I am currently sharing my Expansive office with a partner: Amy Galvin who is a women’s leadership coach and also the CEO of Luxury Living Chicago. We are co-creating an event series this year for women called RISE. These events are for women who are awakening to their feminine energy as a way to feel more in flow and energized and to accomplish their big heart’s desires to effect positive change in our world through their work. Has moving to Expansive contributed to your growth or success in any way? If so, how?

Expansive has definitely contributed to the growth of my business! I first moved into an Expansive office in 2017. At the time, I was looking for a space to meet one on one privately with coaching clients. In 2020, I closed my physical office space for a period of time during the pandemic and personally moved out of the city to enjoy some time in nature. I reopened my office with Expansive in March of 2023 when I began partnering with Amy in co-creating women’s leadership programming. One of the reasons I LOVE Expansive is because elevating women into leadership is a core value. I feel like the name “Expansive” captures what I’ve been able to do here – grow and expand my space and business based on my inner callings and needs.
